NICOLE'S DREAM JOB COME TRUE

For years, Nicole longed to find paid employment in her community instead of following a typical life path into a day habilitation program for inexperienced people with developmental disabilities. Though Nicole had never held a job and was painfully anxious and shy, her dream was to work with books since, from childhood, she had an insatiable desire to learn and grow by researching a variety of topics of interest and searching out areas of knowledge. Nicole initially struggled to find her niche as a library page but coaching supports and a supportive employer ultimately led to her success and independence.

Nicole is a model employee who ignites enthusiasm among patrons and coworkers alike.

In 2017, Nicole's employer was nominated by Vocational Support Services and awarded New York State's Office for People with Developmental Disabilities Works for Me Medium Employer of the Year recognition for demonstrating a commitment to diversity in the workplace. Nicole's life has been dramatically changed for the better and she continues to thrive at this position.
