At the Center, our Children’s Residential Program (CRP) is designed to provide opportunities for life-long learning, including recreation, community, and employment opportunities. For Garrett and the other children living at CRP, it is home. Our residential home provides students with a structured environment, 24/7 professional support, and opportunities for developing independence and life skills.

Garrett is 15 years-old and moved into a residential program Upstate three years ago. He progressed in areas of independence and skills acquisition. However, the distance between Garrett and his family created strain for everyone. The distance made visits difficult and less frequent, impacting Garrett’s adjustment. Garrett is close with his siblings, Sophie (19) and Derek (13). They are his biggest supporters, adore him and also suffered having him so far from home.

Garrett’s parents, Lisa and Pete, knew that the best decision for the family would be to find a residential program closer to home, and were thrilled when an opening at the Center became available in July.

Garrett’s mom, Lisa shared, “We don’t know where we would be if the Center didn’t come through. We are very happy with his progress in school and residence; it was a seamless transition thanks to the staff. The communication has been second to none.”

We hope this story provides a sense of the deep commitment the Center offers to children and adults living with intellectual and developmental disabilities, and inspires you to continue or initiate your support in our mission. We appreciate contributions of all sizes and hope you know that your donation helps support the life-changing work we do here.
