The Children's Day Program at the Center is a 12-month educational program supporting children ages 5 - 21, who have an educational classification of Autism, Intellectual Disability or Multiple Disabilities. Students are referred to the program through their home district when their Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals and educational needs cannot be met in their current placements.
Our mission is to provide quality educational programming to increase each students' level of independence, so he or she can participate more effectively in the community.
We currently support students living in Nassau and Suffolk County as well as New York City. Classrooms have staffing ratios of 6:1:2 or 9:1:3.
The classroom curriculum within the Children's Day Program covers multiple academic subjects which include English Language Arts, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies and more. Students are able to participate in many skill-building and educational opportunities throughout the school.
The mission of our Vocational Education Program is to prepare students to become contributing members of the community by teaching daily living and social skills. These skill sets include problem-solving, time management, housekeeping, daily living, shopping, money management, personal safety and organizational skills.
The mission of Adapted Physical Education is to stress the benefits of physical activity and exercise for students of all ages and abilities to help them develop ways to continue participation for life-long health and recreational enjoyment. We achieve this through participating in our Lifetime Sports Curriculum.
The mission of the Center's Art Program is to allow each student to express his or her own feelings and to explore his or her own world through the use of various art media. This program provides a creative environment to foster self-esteem, emotional expression, cognitive integration, self-awareness and overall growth. The creative process is more important than the final product.
The mission of the Center's Music Program is to maximize each students' potential through utilizing music as a vehicle for increased self-awareness, emotional expression and cognitive integration. This program supports self-esteem and overall emotional growth.
